RSGA HANDICAP FORMULA
League handicaps are based solely on league play. Starting handicaps each year for returning members are based on their ending handicap from the previous year. Starting handicaps will be used until a member completes 3 rounds for the current year. At that point, the current year’s handicap will be based on those first 3 scores and additional recorded scores from then on. Handicap is determined using the table below.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Number Scores Used
of Scores In Calculation Adjustment
3 Lowest 1 -2
4 Lowest 1 -1
5 Lowest 1 0
6 Avg. of Lowest 2 -1
7 or 8 Avg. of Lowest 2 0
9-11 Avg. of Lowest 3 0
12-14 Avg. of Lowest 4 0
15-16 Avg. of Lowest 5 0
17-18 Avg. of Lowest 6 0
19 Avg. of Lowest 7 0
20 Avg. of Lowest 8 0
-------------------------------------------------------------
EXAMPLE: Sample golfer starting average: 80. Sample golfer’s handicap will remain 80 until three scores for the current year are recorded. First three recorded scores: 78, 82, 79. Calculation is sum of 78, 82, 79, which equals 239. 239 divided by 3 results in an average score of 79.7. Subtracting course par rating of 72 results in a handicap of 7.7 (difference between par and average score recorded). Final handicap is 5.7 after applying adjustment. New member handicaps are based on the average of three qualifying rounds to establish initial average. Updated handicaps will be calculated using the table above based on the number of recorded scores.
